Watonga Trout Derby      March 6-8, 2009

 

  For nearly 30 years Roman Nose State Park and Lake Watonga have hosted the Watonga Trout Derby and every year it gets bigger and better.  This year was once again a fun event for anglers of all ages who travelled from all over the state of Oklahoma and even surrounding states.  Roman Nose State Park is a beautiful park to be at for any reason, but throw in some relaxing fishing, the opportunity to spend time with family or friends and the chance to win some of the $1,000 cash and other great prizes that were given away and how could anyone go wrong?  This year, for the first time, we also gave away a Bass Brat fishing boat!

Heaviest Trout of the weekend was caught by Ronnie Dunn on Friday.   It weighed in at 4 lbs. 15 oz.   Kolby Bizzell holding one of the fish from his       13lb. 15 oz. Heaviest Stringer.

A tie for heaviest trout of the weekend in the Junior Division was between Treavor Pratt (at left with big brother Cody)
and Jakob Logan.  Both caught trout weighing in at 1 lb. 15 oz.  Good job guys!

Another tie was in the Senior Division for Heaviest Trout

of the day on Sunday.  The winners were Doug Gholson

and Lionel Acosta with fish weighing 2 lbs. even.

Doug Patterson was the winner, by drawing, of this Meco Electric Grill, donated by Cimarron Electric.

 

 

One Senior Division registration was drawn to win this Bass Brat fishing boat from Buster Boats of Stillwater, OK.
That lucky registration belonged to Chris Lingren, pictured below with his new boat.

John Wendt, holding the lucky tagged trout that won him the Grand Prize of $300.

The Grand Prize is drawn from all tags turned in

during the event.
