Watonga is located seventy miles northwest of Oklahoma City. The population is approximately 4,000 and Watonga is the County Seat of Blaine County.

Founded in 1892, Watonga is named for the Arapaho Chief Watanga, or (Black Coyote).

Agriculture and ranching are big business here, along with gypsum mining and manufacturing. Diamondback Correctional Facility provides many additional jobs for Watonga.

Watonga is a popular spot for antique shopping, browsing through museums, and fine dining.

The second Friday & Saturday in October, thousands converge on Watonga for the annual Cheese Festival. Visitors enjoy crafts, antiques, street dancing, cheese tasting, food contests, a parade, mechanical bull riding, quilt shows, the great rat race, mouse walk, good food, classic car shows and great entertainment.

Rich in cultural western history, Watonga has retained it's beautiful turn-of-the-century plains architecture. Individuals and tour groups enjoy spending time in Watonga. The Chamber of Commerce will provide step-on-tour guides if requested.
