Chamber Chimes

January 28, 2009

It is hard to believe, as we sit here worrying about icy roads and frozen pipes, but plans are well underway for the Watonga Trout Derby, scheduled for March 6-8 at Lake Watonga.  Thinking about this fun, outdoor, family event is a great light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel from these dark, cold days.  The tagged trout have been scheduled for delivery and arrangements are being made for some great prizes and give-aways.  If our plans work out, you may want to register even if you don’t fish!  I’ll keep you posted in coming weeks as things develop.

Also in the planning is the Watonga Chamber Banquet.  Tentatively planned for Tuesday, February 24th (pending confirmation of our speaker’s calendar) we are planning a nice dinner with plenty of enjoyable entertainment.  Start thinking now about how many tickets you will need.  This year, for table decorations, we would like to invite area businesses, churches and organizations to provide a centerpiece to show yourself off.  You will have the opportunity to showcase items from your store, information about your organization or services, and let everyone at the Banquet get to know you through your tablescape.  These items will not be given away to the attendees.  If you would like to participate or have any questions, please give me a call at 623-5452.

Our committees for 2009 have been formed and are loaded with eager volunteers who all have a genuine interest in helping Watonga succeed.  From planning and executing the annual events we all know and love, to economic development, membership, retail trade, highways and many other areas, these folks are hard at work.  If you would like to offer your assistance to any of these committees, I would be happy to help you contact them.

Membership renewal letters have been sent out.  If you have not received yours, please call the office so I can send one to you.  We greatly appreciate the businesses & individuals who have sent in their dues, as these are an integral part of the Chamber’s ability to operate.  Without our members and volunteers, there would be no Chamber of Commerce to promote Watonga.  Thanks to all of you.

I would also like to thank everyone who has welcomed me as I start this new adventure with the Chamber of Commerce.  The warm, friendly, encouraging comments I have received from so many of you just reinforces my belief that this is a great community of great people!  I welcome anyone who has questions or suggestions to come see me at the Chamber office or call 623-5452
